OUR PHILOSOPHY

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Children

1. We believe that children have a right to feel safe and develop a sense of belonging. They have a right to explore their physical environment, to build friendships with other children, to develop their own personalities, skills and spiritual awareness and to function as active participants and decision makers in their own learning.

2. We believe all children are capable, competent and resourceful and that each child has their own unique pattern of development. Therefore, we cater for all levels of abilities by a diverse, flexible quality program.

3. We believe that children’s learning is dynamic, complex and holistic. Play is the most powerful learning tool. We provide a play based learning environment with meaningful and enriching experiences, supplemented by intentional teaching. We recognise children are successful, competent and capable learners as they actively construct their own learning.

4.Our program embraces principles of the Early Years Learning Framework, and is foundational in planning and implementing quality experiences for the children. We understand children have agency, with capabilities and rights to initiate and lead learning. The interests, abilities, previous experiences and individual learning styles
are considered in our planning as we aim to ignite the children’s love for learning.

4. We believe all children are loved by God and are equal in his eyes. Cultural and religious diversity in our community is celebrated and respected. Children will feel valued and understood for their uniqueness by knowing how much Jesus loves them .

5. We value and honour the principles of equity, inclusion and diversity that underlie the principles of the Education and Care Services National Law. We acknowledge the Guringai people as the traditional custodians of the land that St James Kindergarten resides on today.

6. We respect the environment and it’s role as a third teacher. In providing a nurturing and aesthetically pleasing environment that invites exploration, we also aim to implement sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Staff

1. As Educators we value and engage in reflective practice. This involves regular reflection of pedagogy and the evaluation of children’s learning outcomes to scaffold and extend children’s learning. These reflections are the foundation of our cycle of learning.

2. We believe in a commitment to continuous improvement of professional knowledge in ever changing environment.

Community                    .

1. We believe and respect that families are children’s first and foremost influential educators. We value their contribution and aim to continually meet their needs

2. We work in partnership with our families. In collaborating together, we can foster and support children’s sense of worth, well-being and security. When these relationships are strong, a child’s sense of community and belonging is enhanced.

Committee
1. We work in close collaboration with our Management Committee. We value and utilise their combined knowledge, skills and experience.
